Hi there!

My name is Ashley Gleghorn and I'm a musician and entrepreneur. I decided to open Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios because of my passion for music and teaching. I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have performed every single year since I began. I have picked up many instruments over the years, and these are some that have stayed with me up until now: voice, ukulele, and guitar.

My Sunrise into Teaching Piano

I first picked up the piano at the young age of six and had various teachers from then until now. I began with an elderly lady named Ms. Bonnie. She was kind and her teaching style encouraged me to keep playing. I don't remember how long exactly she taught me for, but once I moved from Springfield, Virginia to Los Angeles, California in 2016 I stopped taking formal lessons.

In 2018, I moved to Fairborn, Ohio and found a sweet young lady named Rebekah Robertson who taught piano and was pursuing a bachelor's degree in piano performance at Wright State University. I took lessons from her until 2021. She taught me compassion and enthusiasm.

In September 2022, I was enrolled at Piano Preparatory School in Beavercreek and I began to take lessons from Elizabeth Dunkel, a kind-hearted and gracious teacher. She is a Cedarville graduate with a bachelor's degree in piano pedagogy. This is when I really picked up piano again and started to take it more seriously, although practicing was still a challenge. In March 2023 I first had the idea to teach piano, so I started it and really enjoyed it. I haven't stopped since.

At the start of the 2023 school year, I began taking lessons from the owner of PPS, Jennifer Shoup. I continued lessons with her until November 2024. She taught me many different things about music and I am extremely grateful to her for her guidance.

I want to share with my students all of the love, skill, and knowledge I have attained over the years, and ultimately I want to empower students to rise like the sun into their full musical potential; this is why I named my business Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios. But there's a little more to understand when it comes to my business name. Let me explain. The word 'prelude' means an action or event serving as an introduction to something more important, and there are many preludes in classical music. During the prelude to each sunrise, there may not be much that you can see because the sun is just below the horizon line, but there is always more than meets the eye. As the sun begins to rise, the beautiful pink, orange, and yellow watercolors fill the sky. And once the sun has fully risen, it shines gloriously. I believe each student is a sunrise and can produce musical beauty just like the sun.

I believe one can never stop growing in their musicianship, so I continue to pursue my music education with private lessons, music theory classes, online courses, and lots and lots of dedicated time to music and piano!
