Studio Philosophy

At Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios, I provide comprehensive, high-quality music education tailored to the unique needs and goals of each student. My desire is for every student to feel inspired, enjoy the process of learning, develop perseverance, and cultivate a lifelong love of music.

I believe music is more than learning to play an instrument. It is a powerful tool for developing confidence, discipline, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Through music education, students have opportunities to grow not only as musicians but also personally, emotionally, and academically.

The SHINE Values

Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios is dedicated to the following "SHINE" values:

  • Support: Create a caring and encouraging environment where every student and family feels valued and supported.

  • Harmony: Cultivate harmony by building strong student-teacher relationships that honor each student's unique learning style, while fostering a welcoming studio community united by a shared love of music.

  • Inspire: Inspire a lifelong love of music by making lessons fun, engaging, meaningful, and rewarding.

  • Nurture: Nurture confidence, perseverance, creativity, and character through the study of music.

  • Excellence: Pursue excellence by providing high-quality instruction in a positive, organized, and welcoming studio environment.

Commitment & Enrollment

All group classes at Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios are semester-long programs built around a thoughtfully sequenced curriculum. Enrollment in any class is a commitment for the full semester.

Why Commitment Matters for Students

Children make the most meaningful progress when they learn within a consistent routine. Ongoing enrollment allows students to:

  • build skills step by step

  • feel confident in a familiar class structure

  • form meaningful connections with classmates and their teacher

  • experience those “it clicked!” moments through repetition and practice

  • take pride in sticking with something and seeing real progress

When students stay committed, they don’t just improve musically, they feel more confident, capable, and accomplished.

Why Commitment Matters for the Program

Each class depends on consistent enrollment to run smoothly. Steady commitment from families helps maintain small class sizes, stable schedules, and a high-quality learning environment.

For this reason, enrollment is a commitment for the full semester, and I am unable to offer credits or refunds for cancellations, early withdrawals, or missed classes.

Tuition & Fees

For a full breakdown of tuition and fees, please refer to the Homeschool Music Class registration page.

Tuition may be paid in full or in installments, depending on the program and enrollment option. All payments are processed through automatic billing for convenience and consistency.

Group classes may be paid in full at a discounted rate or in five monthly installments, as each semester program runs for five months (August–December or January–May).

A $30 household registration fee is required to enroll and reserve your family's spot. Tuition is then billed on the 1st of each month, regardless of when the program begins or ends.

Enrollment is a financial commitment for the semester. Because group classes rely on consistent enrollment to run smoothly, tuition is non-refundable. No credits or refunds are provided for cancellations, early withdrawals, or missed classes. If a student withdraws or is discontinued for any reason, the remaining balance for the semester is due in full upon withdrawal.

Automatic Re-Enrollment

All group classes at Sunrise Prelude Piano Studios use automatic re-enrollment to support consistent learning and simplify scheduling for families. Students are automatically enrolled and billed for the next semester unless a family chooses to opt out.

To ensure clarity and transparency, you will always receive advance communication with clear instructions and deadlines, giving you time to decide whether to continue.

Opt-Out Deadlines

If you choose not to continue, please notify me 30 days before the start of a new semester. Multiple reminders will be sent prior to these deadlines.

Schedule Changes, Level Placement, & Aging Up

If your child is ready to move to the next level/age group, or if a different class time better fits your schedule, I will help you transition into the most appropriate placement.

Automatic re-enrollment helps ensure students maintain their progress, keeps class placement secure, and supports a stable, consistent learning environment for all families.

Transfers & Class Changes

Families are asked to commit to the full semester when enrolling in a group class. The curriculum is designed to build week by week and is experienced best within a consistent group of students.

Transfers to another class may be considered on a limited basis if:

  • There is space available in a class of the same level

  • The age and developmental needs are a good fit

  • The change does not disrupt the balance or stability of either group

Mid-semester transfers are not guaranteed and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

If a class falls below the minimum enrollment threshold, families may be contacted to discuss options such as rescheduling, combining classes, or transitioning to a private lesson format.

Participation & Class Expectations

Parent Orientation Meeting

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend a parent orientation meeting before the first month of semester classes. Meeting dates will be shared prior to the start of the semester, and sessions will be held via Google Meet.

Experience shows that students whose caregivers attend orientation are more successful in the program. Understanding the curriculum helps families better support learning at home and engage more fully in the class experience.

In Class

Parents or caregivers are not required to attend class with their student. You are welcome to observe when space allows; however, due to the limited size of the studio, there is no seating available. When indoor space is unavailable, parents may observe from the patio. Parents are also welcome to wait in their car or leave and return at the end of class for pickup.

For safety and focus, additional children and guests are not permitted in the studio. Parents are responsible for arranging supervision for any non-enrolled children during class time.

Students must be picked up promptly at the end of their scheduled lesson time, as supervision is not provided outside of class. A 5-minute grace period is allowed for pickup. After 5 minutes, a $15 late pickup fee will be charged to cover additional supervision time. Consistent late pickups may result in a review of enrollment.

At Home

Students and parents will participate in weekly at-home activities designed to reinforce what is learned in class. This is an important part of the learning process and helps make music a shared family experience. These activities may include singing, rhythm games, movement, or playing songs on an instrument.

Regular practice gives students the strongest foundation for progress and skill development. At a minimum, students should plan to practice at least 3 days per week outside of class.

Attendance & Events

Missed Class Policy

  • No refunds or credits are provided for missed classes.

  • If a student will be absent, families must notify the studio at least 24 hours in advance.

  • With advance notice, the student will receive assigned at-home practice activities and, when possible, a short recorded lesson summary or class-style video.

  • If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, no make-up materials, assignments, or recordings will be provided.

Students should not attend classes when they are ill or have had symptoms in the last 24 hours. If needed, text or email to arrange a make-up video. Your teacher will ensure you have the homework from any missed class.

Teacher Absence

Each semester includes two built-in teacher flexibility weeks to account for illness, emergencies, or unexpected events. These weeks are already factored into the studio calendar and tuition, so while the semester spans approximately 17 weeks (excluding holidays), students are guaranteed 15 instructional lessons.

If the teacher cancels a class, families will be notified as soon as possible. No rescheduling is required, students just continue with the next scheduled class, typically the following week.

Recitals

Students are invited to participate in our recitals along with our private lesson students. This is a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate what we’ve learned, and watching more advanced students perform is both motivating and inspiring!

Recital dates and locations will be announced at the beginning of each semester. Participation is encouraged but optional.

Calendar

The following holidays and breaks are observed. No classes will be held on these dates. The studio calendar is designed to account for these breaks, and students will still receive the full number of instructional classes.

  • Labor Day

  • Thanksgiving Week (excluding Monday)

  • The last two weeks of December (Christmas and New Year)

  • One week for Spring Break

  • Memorial Day Week

Materials & Instruments

Students enrolled in the Homeschool Music Class will need a recorder. A piano and ukulele are recommended to enhance learning at home, but are not required. Other materials will be provided during the class.

Discontinuation & Withdrawal

The studio may discontinue a student for:

  • Repeated disruptive behavior

  • Persistent lack of attendance

  • Lack of reasonable practice effort

  • Late or missed payments

  • Policy violations

As outlined in the Tuition & Fees section, if a student withdraws or is discontinued for any reason, the remaining balance for the semester is due in full upon withdrawal.
